I learned the hard way that moving day is not the time to discover that your furniture needs to be taken apart. I had a large desk that seemed easy enough to move, so I left it assembled. When it came time to get it through the apartment door, it became obvious that I should have tested that idea much earlier.

During a late-night search for moving tips, I came across a discussion that linked to pickup truck for furniture moving. What stood out to me wasn't the transportation aspect, but how many people recommended creating a list of items that need disassembly before the actual move.

The funny thing is that taking the desk apart only took about twenty minutes. The frustrating part was doing it under pressure while boxes were stacked everywhere and everyone was waiting. Since then, I've started making a room-by-room checklist whenever I know a move is coming.

Do you usually disassemble furniture days in advance, or do you leave it until the moving day itself?
