About the Event
Habarigani (Greetings) From the 2020 Kwanzaa Committee & Board of Directors of The Afrikan Poetry Theatre. We hope that all are well in these trying times. The Holiday season has arrived, and A.P.T. is gearing up for KWANZAA 2020 Music & Dance Festival. Celebrating “Kujichagulia” (Self Determination). If you are a new member to our Kwanzaa family, we welcome you. This is our 41st Kwanzaa Festival. In the past 40 years we’ve presented the community with 8 hour long, live events that attracted an audience of thousands, and included an array of craft vendors, entertainment, education, and cuisine from the African diaspora. Unfortunately, do to social distancing we are limited in our capacity, and will not be having a live event this year.
However, in its place we are producing a televised Kwanzaa Festival, recorded live from JPAC (Jamaica Performing Arts Center). Our 2020 Kwanzaa Festival will consist of a 3 hour professionally produced television program, where we will celebrate culture of the African diaspora, through dance, music, and education. In the spirit of charity, this program will be free to the public for viewing.
The virtual online nature of this year’s festival will allow for us to expand into an international market. Along with the amazing local artist from NYC that have continuously showed support. We will have performers from Malawi, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uganda, and Tanzania.
